Ravichandran Ashwin had a fantastic Test match, assisting Team India to a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Second Test match on Sunday. He was named Player of the Match after delivering an all-round performance that included six wickets and 54 runs.
The all-rounder scored 42 runs off 62 balls in India’s fourth innings, in a 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Shreyas Iyer. The pair assisted the visitors in chasing down the 145-run target on a wicket where Bangladeshi spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz wreaked havoc on India’s top order, picking up five wickets.
When Ashwin came in to bat, India was under extreme pressure, with the scoreboard reading 74/7. Ashwin was given a major reprieve in the 34th over of India’s chase when Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque dropped his catch at short leg off the fourth ball of Mehidy’s over. Ashwin capitalised on the missed opportunity by Bangladesh to help India win the match without losing another wicket.
Following India’s thrilling victory, a fan trolled Ashwin, reminding him of the dropped catch that allowed him to play a match-winning knock during India’s chase. “You should have handed this to Mominul Haque, Who dropped that dolly.. had he bagged it, India all out for 89 for sure… @ashwinravi99,” the fan commented on Ashwin’s Twitter post for winning the Player of the Match.
In response to the scathing remark, Ashwin said, “Oh no ! I thought I blocked you, oh sorry that’s the other guy. what’s his name?? Yes Daniel Alexander that’s the name !! Imagine what you both would do if India dint play cricket”.

With the victory, India completed a clean sweep of the hosts and won the series 2-0. Cheteshwar Pujara was named Player of the Series after scoring 222 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 74.00. India has now moved to the second position in the Test Championship 2023 points table. They will look to do well in their remaining games to qualify for the final.
