On Saturday, the third day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh saw some poor fielding by Indian players. In Mirpur, Bangladesh set India a 145-run target. Litton (73) led the way for the hosts, who scored 231 in the second innings.

Litton rode his luck in an innings in which Virat Kohli dropped him twice, first off Axar Patel and then off Ravichandran Ashwin. They were both risky bets. He was assigned to the slips. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was unimpressed with Team India’s slip-catching technique.

Gavaskar stated while commentating for Sony Sports Network, that Indians do not “crouch low for spinners. They stand too upright with hands on knees. It’s surprising that their coach is Rahul Dravid, who is probably the only Indian with more than 200 catches and a great catcher…”

It doesn’t send good signals to Kohli: Sunil Gavaskar

The legendary batter was also opposed to Axar Patel being placed ahead of Virat Kohli at No. 4. At stumps, India were at 45/4, with Kohli out. “It doesn’t send good signals to Kohli. To the world’s best batsman that you bat down. Unless Kohli himself asked for it; then it’s different matter. We don’t know what happened in change room. But it’s hard to understand. Axar has played well, of course,” Gavaskar said.

As for the game, with 100 needed to win, India started the fourth day on a horrible note. They lost Jaydev Unadkat, well-set Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant early in the day. The visitors were in trouble at a score of 74/7 with Mehidy Hasan Miraz completing his five-wicket haul.

All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and previous innings’ star Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, ensured that their team crossed the finish line. The former scored an unbeaten 42-run knock in 62 balls, while the latter provided solid support with his 29-run innings in 46 balls.

For his outstanding all-round performance in the match, Ashwin was named Player of the Match. He took six wickets and helped India win the match with the bat.
