Mumbai have now lost their first six games of the Indian T20 league 2022. This is their worst start to any season in the history of the league. Things just don’t seem to be getting better for them. On the other hand, Lucknow have won their fourth game of the 2022 edition.
KL Rahul silenced his critics as he went on to play one of the best knocks of this edition so far. The Lucknow skipper scored his third hundred in the cash-rich league. The fact that it came in his 100th Indian T20 league game was icing over the cake. He scored an unbeaten 103 runs off just 60 deliveries. It included nine fours and five sixes.
There were some vital contributions from Manish Pandey and Deepak Hooda. While the Karnataka batter scored 38 runs from 29 balls, Hooda scored an eight-ball 15. However it was their skipper who stole the show. He became the second captain to score two hundreds in the history of the league. Thus, the Lucknow-based franchise got to 199-4 in their stipulated 20 overs.
It could have been much more if not for some disciplined bowling by Mumbai’s bowlers at the death. Jaydev Unadkat was superb in particular as he bowled a lot of variations in his last two overs. Although Jasprit Bumrah didn’t pick any wickets, he too was superb as he only gave 24 runs in his full quota of four overs.
The second innings saw Mumbai’s openers fail once again. Just when things seemed to be tilting towards Lucknow’s favour, Dewald Brevis played a superb cameo and hit some awesome shots. The 18-year-old scored a 13-ball 31. Post which, Suryakumar Yadav gave the Mumbai fans a glimmer of hope before being dismissed for a 27-ball 37.
Losing wickets at regular intervals didn’t really help Mumbai’s cause. Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he got three wickets in his full quota of four overs. At the end, the five-time champions fell short of their target by 18 runs.
