With less than eight months left for the 2022 20-20 World Cup in Australia, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have a task of finding the right combination for the tournament. However, coach Dravid feels that he and skipper Sharma have everything sorted.
The wall took over the responsibility of India coach after Ravi Shastri stepped down from the post following India’s group-stage exit in last year’s 20-20 World Cup in UAE. It has been a mixed bag for the coach since he was given the responsibility of managing the team.
While, India lost both Test and ODI series against South Africa, Men in Blue made a comeback in their home series against West Indies and completed a whitewash in both ODIs and T20Is. India will now take on Sri Lanka in three T20Is to find a suited combination and continue their preparations for the mega
event.
“I don’t think there’s a set formula to it. But we’re pretty clear about the balance and the combination (for the T20 World Cup)… We are just structuring a little bit of the team around it and also balancing individual workloads as well,” Dravid was quoted by The New Indian Express.
“We have got a pretty fair idea of the kind of skills we’re looking for in Australia, with the kind of guys who are in running. Not everything is set in stone but we want to give everyone a fair chance to stake their claim for their spot,” he added.
With some senior Indian players like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami rested against West Indies, Dravid and skipper Sharma gave chances to young guns such as Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan to stake their claim for the all-important World Cup.
