WATCH: Wellington players combine to take one of the best catches during Super Smash 2023-24 encounter

Central Districts although were still able to win their game against Wellington yesterday.

Catch of the century?

On Saturday, January 13, Nick Kelly and Troy Johnson collaborated to make one of the most incredible catches to get rid of Will Young in Super Smash. The sixth over of the run chase saw this catch get completed by Wellington. The right-handed batter hit a fuller-length ball that Wellington bowler Michael Snedden delivered towards the long-on area. Kelly slipped over the ropes, caught the ball close to the boundary, and tossed it back.

Fortunately, Troy Johnson trailed behind and finished the incredible catch, leaving everyone speechless. Although boundary catches are becoming more and more regular, in this instance the fielder’s body control was completely lost. There was hardly enough time for him to toss the ball back.

Tom Bruce, the captain, and Doug Bracewell both hit superb centuries. Meanwhile, Jack Boyle’s masterful batting display enabled Central Districts defeat Wellington by six wickets during the Super Smash.

Chasing 148, Boyle hit 57 runs from 43 balls, featuring 10 boundaries. Bruce and Bracewell also contributed, contributing 30 (11) as well as 26 (21), respectively. For Wellington, Michael Snedden, Peter Younghusband, Jesse Tashkoff, and Logan van Beek each claimed one wicket.

How did Wellington perform in the first innings?

Wellington scored 147/8 in their 20 overs while batting first. With the bat, Logan van Beek was outstanding, amassing an undefeated 41 off of 24 deliveries, including two sixes in addition to three boundaries. Callum McLachlan and Muhammad Abbas both contributed with scores of 24 (22 ) and 35 (29) respectively. For Central Districts, Doug Bracewell and Blair Tickner took two wickets each, while Bevan Small, Joey Field and Jayden Lennox were content with one wicket each.

Central Districts moved up to third place among the Super Smash points standings after the victory. In eight games, they have three victories. But even though Wellington lost the game, they maintained their top ranking. Out of eight games, they came out on top five of them.
