Watch: Shubman Gill lifts the lid on Rishabh Pant-Urvashi Rautela incident, says Pant did not care for it

A few months ago, the Rishabh Pant-Urvashi Rautela incident, in which both of them assaulted the other with cryptic messages, was quite the social media story. It all started when the Bollywood actress mentioned “Mr. RP” in an interview, which sparked a series of Instagram posts and stories with coded messages for each other.

Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant’s teammate, spoke about the incident involving Urvashi Rautela and described how his teammates reacted. Gill has defended his senior, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, saying he has nothing to do with model and actress Urvashi Rautela.

“There is nothing from Rishabh Pant’s side. He doesn’t get distracted by her activities. Actually, Urvashi wants someone to tease her. He does not even care about it,” said Gill while speaking to Sonam Bajwa on a chat show ‘Dil Diyan Gallan’.

Rishabh and Shubman are currently in New Zealand for the ongoing Twenty20 International series. Following the cancellation of the first match at Sky Stadium in Wellington, the Men in Blue won by 65 runs at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The final T20I of the series will be played on November 22nd at McLean Park in Napier.

In the meantime, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill will be out to prove themselves in this series. Gill, who has been in and out of the national team, needs to demonstrate consistency to be on the selectors’ radar, and with the senior players rested for this tour, this is an ideal opportunity for him to try and audition for his place in the T20I side.

Pant, on the other hand, will need to get some quick runs in this series. The southpaw had a disastrous 20-20 World Cup campaign, getting out cheaply in the Super 12 match against Zimbabwe and the semi-final against England. He also managed only to score six runs in the second T20I against New Zealand.
