The India U-19 Women’s team made the entire country proud by winning the inaugural 20-20 World Cup. The young cricketers, led by experienced Shafali Verma, defeated England in the final on January 29th in Potchefstroom (Sunday).
After the match, the skipper was seen in tears as she spoke to the broadcaster in the post-match presentation. The 19-year-old could barely complete her sentences as she was filled up with emotions. Eventually, she got through the interview and thanked her players and team management for backing her in this new role. A video of the same has gone viral over the internet.

Thanks to a superb bowling performance and an impressive fielding display, India had England on the back foot from the start of the final. After dismissing England for 68 runs, India chased down the target with seven wickets and six overs to spare, sparking wild celebrations in the camp.
Titas Sadhu set the tone, and the spinners delivered another outstanding performance when it mattered most. For her four-over spell, six runs, and two wickets, the pacer was named player of the match.
In the meantime, the Indian Men’s Senior Team sent some messages to the country’s emerging players. In a video posted by the Indian Cricket Board, the men’s team was seen lavishing praise on the young cricketers.
Rahul Dravid, team head coach, extended his best wishes to the team, saying, “Today was the landmark day for India under-19 Women’s cricket team and they had a fantastic day”. The microphone was then passed to Prithvi Shaw, captain of the men’s under-19 World Cup-winning team.
Shaw, who led India’s Under-19 team to victory in New Zealand in 2018, said, “I think, it’s a great achievement. Everyone wants to congratulate the under-19 Women’s team. So Congratulations!”
