During the Chennai vs Lucknow, Ruturaj Gaikwad made a fielding lapse in the dying moments of the game. In the second last over of the game, he was fielding at deep third man. Krishnappa Gowtham played a reverse scoop against Rajvardhan Hangargekar. It looked like going for a four but Gaikwad decided to intervene. Even though he overran the ball, he managed to stick out his hand.
This resulted in him stopping the boundary and saving three runs. On the other hand, batters such as Gowtham and Ayush Badoni only scored one run, thinking that the ball will go inside the boundary. In the meantime, a moment to umpiring howler was also recorded on camera. Apparently, Chennai’s opening batter, Gaikwad touched his towel with the ball in his hands.
As per the rules, that results in five runs rewarded to the batting side. However, despite the replays being played two to three times, the umpires didn’t reward five runs to Lucknow.
