After months of rescheduling, the Asia Cup 2022 is finally set to be held in the UAE. The series was earlier planned to take place in Pakistan but was later moved to Sri Lanka due to political reasons. The economic crisis in Sri Lanka, however, has pushed cricket boards to rethink on the host country. The cricket boards participating in Asia Cup have now come to an agreement with UAE as the host for this year’s tournament.

After Indian Cricket Board’s Apex Council meeting, board President, Sourav Ganguly came out and said, “Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains.”

Star Sports has won the broadcasting rights for the upcoming tournament. In their latest Tweet, the broadcasting company has released a promo for the upcoming Asia Cup.

The caption of the video reads, “The battle for Asian supremacy is on. Get set to #BeleiveInBlue as @ImRo45 leads #TeamIndia at the #AsiaCup2022!”

The video shows clips from past Asia Cup matches with a song accompanying the goosebump-inducing video. The Asia Cup is slated to be held from 27th September with the final to be played on 11th September. This year’s Asia Cup will be in T20 format as opposed to the 50-overs of yesteryear.

India have been the dominant side in the tournament, winning the cup seven times in 1984, 1988, 1990/91, 1995, 2010, 2016 and 2018. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have won it on five occasions in 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008 and 2014. Pakistan have only won the cup twice in 2002 and 2012. This year’s Asia Cup will feature six teams namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and a qualifier team.

India are set to play against West Indies and Zimbabwe before the Asia Cup, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka play out in a two-match Test Series. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have recently won an ODI series against West Indies by 3-0 and are currently playing a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. This year, the tournament promises to entertain the fans like never before.
