WATCH: Massive fight erupts during MI Emirates and Desert Vipers clash in ILT20 2024

Two players involved in massive fight during ILT20 match on Sunday

Cricket is a gentleman’s game and on occasions, the players don’t live up to the tag. On Sunday there was a massive fight that took place during the ILT20 2024 tournament. Waqar Salamkheil and Wanindu Hasaranga were the two players involved in the spat seen on Sunday.

The incident took place in the final ball of the 6th over when Salamkheil was bowling to Hasaranga. Sri Lanka’s all-rounder got a thick edge and Nicolas Pooran did the rest behind the stumps.

As the batter was walking off the Afghan bowler stared at him and said something. Wanindu Hasaranga turned around was seen exchanging words with the bowler. The umpires calmed down the situation before things got out of hand.

MI Emirates’ win and qualify for the playoffs –

Colin Munro won the toss and put MI Emirates into bat first during the ILT20 game on Sunday. The Vipers needed a win to move up the table and register their 4th win of the season. After the loss on Sunday, Vipers now have 6 points from 8 games. Dubai Capitals and Sharjah Warriors also have the same amount of points having played a game less.

Mohammad Amir struck first when he went through the gates of Mohammad Waseem for 7. Andre Fletcher was the next to go when he was out for 11 and dismissed by Nathan Sowter. Kusal Perera and Ambati Rayudu then added 75 runs for the third wicket in just 59 balls.

It was Kusal Perera’s national teammate Hasaranga who sent him back to the hut for 65. Ambati Rayudu finally found some form as he scored 44 runs off 38 balls. Skipper Nicolas Pooran then smashed a quick 39 runs off 15 balls to help MI Emirates reach 188.

Fazalhaq Farooqi, Trent Boult, and Akeal Hosein reduced the Vipers to 16 for 4 at one stage. Rohan Mustafa was out for a duck, while Alex Hales (6) and Colin Munro (7) were out early as well. Adam Hose could score only a single while Hasaranga scored to leave their team at 45/6.

Ali Naseer fought back with 63 not out as he got good support from Azam Khan and Sherfane Rutherford. Luke Wood swung his bat to score 30 not out but it was too little and too late. MI Emirates won the game by 30 runs and ensured their safe passage into the next phase of the tournament.
