‘Itna intense match tha bhai ye toh’ – Fans react as India seal ODI World Cup 2023 finals place after 70-run win over New Zealand

Mohammed Shami’s explosive fifer was enough to make sure of Team India’s win in the crucial semi-final tie.

India vs New Zealand

Rohit Sharma, the skipper, chose to bat first and established the tone right away. India had a flying start, and the Kiwis found adrift from the opening over. Kane Williamson let out a yell, ending Rohit’s knock. His firing was met with a sigh of relief in New Zealand. When Rohit departed, Shubman Gill took the lead. This gave Virat Kohli the opportunity to start. Regretfully, the heat in Mumbai caused the former to retire injured, forcing him to depart the pitch at 79.

At that point, Kohli as well as Shreyas Iyer teamed up to form an enormous partnership. They consistently maintained the momentum by scoring boundaries. They each contributed well to give India a commanding boost.

During his first seven overs, Mitchell Santner did not play at his highest level. They were able to see him off when he bowled brilliantly. After Santner went wicketless, the Indians simply put their foot down and went crazy. Iyer enjoyed hitting some massive sixes. KL Rahul completed the task, bringing the total to an incredible 397.

Indian bowlers get the job done despite NZ fightback

As New Zealand attempted to apply pressure, Team India’s response with the ball was not good at first. Mohammed Shami struck gold with his opening ball and then removed another batter in his next over. Using his superb seam bowling, he quickly removed both of the New Zealand openers.

Thanks to an incredible 181-run partnership between Mitchell and Williamson, the Kiwis made a spirited comeback. India exhibited some sloppiness by leaking extras and a couple misfields. Before gathering the ball, KL smashed the stumps. Shami also put down a sitter. In this competition, India faced trouble for the first time, but Shami made a spectacular comeback.

By getting rid of Williamson and trapping Tom Latham during the same over, he made the crucial breakthroughs. When Mitchell as well as Glenn Phillips developed a fifty partnership, New Zealand became a serious contender.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav bowled four excellent overs in which they took two wickets for only twenty runs. Shami then returned to deliver the last punch. Mitchell, the centurion, was dismissed. After that, Shami finished with a seven-fer by picking wickets easily. India advanced to the finals by beating New Zealand by 70 runs
