India had a memorable game against the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision of the Indian captain was clear, and it was visible why they opted to bat first. They wanted to test every department of theirs before the big matches. The openers gave a blistering start to the team in the Powerplay overs.
In the first 10 overs of the match, India posted a whopping 92 runs without a loss of wicket. It set the platform for a big total. Shubman Gill scored 51 runs in 32 balls. Rohit Sharma himself scored 61 runs in 54 balls. Virat Kohli scored the fifth fifty of the tournament. But the stars of the show were the duo of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who entertained the crowd with amazing strokes.
The two players who returned to the Indian team just before the Asia Cup 2023, went on to score hundreds. While Iyer scored it in 84 balls, Rahul scored it in 62 balls to register the fastest-ever World Cup ton by an Indian. India ended up with a huge score of 410 runs on the board, their second-highest score in the history of the ODI World Cup.

Chasing 411, Netherlands was going good with 62/1 after the Powerplay overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja brought India back in the game with their brilliant spells. During Kuldeep’s bowling, a catch was dropped by Mohammad Siraj copping a blow on his neck in the process. It forced India to ask the part-time bowlers to bowl some overs.
Virat Kohli was asked to bowl by Rohit. The star cricketer did not disappoint, as he picked the wicket of Scott Edwards, the captain of Netherlands. The crowd erupted in joy. The fans got to see Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav bowl as well. Towards the end, the fans demanded Rohit to bowl as well. The fans chanted “Rohit Sharma bowling karo, hum tumhaare saath hai.” Rohit did not disappoint the fans, as he did not just bowl, but also got the wicket of Teja Nidamanuru.
