Amid the ongoing Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, some star female cricketers are setting the stage ablaze in Australia. The current season of WBBL, the ninth edition, has been grabbing attention due to some remarkable player performances. Meanwhile, a stunning fielding display on Tuesday, October 31, once again highlighted the excitement of the tournament.

During the 18th match, Erin Burns from the Sydney Sixers showcased an exceptional act at the mid-wicket fence, preventing the Perth Scorchers from scoring a certain six. The incident occurred when Alana King from the Perth Scorchers faced Ashleigh Gardner from the Sydney Sixers on the last delivery of the Scorchers’ innings.

Watch Erin Burns’ incredible effort in the field:

While Gardner tried to bowl the ball outside, King attempted a strong slog sweep. However, the shot didn’t go as planned, and the ball was skillfully caught by Burns near the mid-wicket area. But as soon as she realised that she might end up outside the rope, she threw the ball away and then pushed it out while it was in the air.

The Sydney Sixers failed to win the game

This remarkable fielding effort has added to the excitement of the ongoing WBBL tournament, demonstrating the exceptional skills and dedication of the players on the field. Though King survived, Burns’ amazing efforts allowed her and Scorchers just a couple of runs in the end. The Scorchers managed to post 166 at the end of their 20 overs, and the Sixers needed 167 to register their second win of the season.

In response, the Sixers started well, as skipper Ellyse Perry and Suzie Bates added 52 runs for the first wicket. Bates, in her innings, scored 18 runs, while Perry scored 59 runs off 48 balls with the help of ten boundaries. Despite their efforts, middle-order batters failed to score runs and the Sixers lost the game. In the end, they fell 36 runs short of the target as the Scorchers won the game.
