Cristiano Ronaldo made a world record as he scored his 117th goal for his national team Portugal against Switzerland. Ronaldo scored a goal after nine months at the international level while playing in the UEFA Nations League. The legend was at his best and didn’t look like he was on a goal drought in the last few months. He scored two goals in the game, although he could have had four to his name. The 37-year-old missed two chances just before the half-time.
After one of his goals, his mother was in tears and the scorecard read 2-0 at that time. The video of the incident has gone viral and it has been viewed by more than 52,000 people and has got more than 1900 likes. It was a treat for the Portuguese fans as they saw the legend at his best after a long time.

Talking about the game, the Red Army beat Switzerland by 4-0. Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved two goals but couldn’t save his side from such a crushing defeat. The two more goals were scored by Joao Cancelo and William Carvalho. With this win, the team has staked it’s claim for FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be played in Qatar later this year. They will play next against Czech Republic on June 9. On the other hand, Switzerland will play Spain in Geneva on the same day.
After the game, the Funchal-born took to Twitter and wrote that the victory is significant in the team’s journey. He added that the season is ending but this is just a beginning.
“A significant victory in our journey, a lot of pride and confidence in this group, a lot of strength to give the Portuguese what we so desire: victories and convincing performances. The season is ending, but in fact, this is just beginning!”
