RCB and RR clashed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 23rd. RR won the toss and elected to bowl first. RCB had a huge loss at the start as they lost their star batter and captain Virat Kohli on the first ball itself.
Trent Boult dismissed the former India captain with a peach of a delivery that angled in as it bounced off the pitch. The Wicket of Shahbaz Ahmed soon followed and RCB looked in trouble at 12/2 in just 2.1 overs.
It was however then that Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell took control of the inning and came up with brilliant individual half-centuries. On the back of Du Plessis and Maxwell’s innings, RCB reached 189/9 in 20 overs.
Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma were the pick of the bowlers for RR as they took 2 wickets each. A target under 200 seemed quite small for RR and many would’ve thought it an easy run chase for the travelling team.
The chase started off pretty poorly for RR as they lost their captain Jos Buttler in the first over itself. Thenafter however young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal (47) and Devdutte Padikkal (52) changed the course of the run chase and got RR on track.
It looked like an easy win for RR but soon Harshal Patel stuck dismissing Jaiswal in the 12th over. RR’s run chase dwindled after that and RCB were able to come into the game on the back of a brilliant bowling performance. In the end, RCB won the match by a massive 7 runs against RR under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.
Soon fans on Twitter started demanding Kohli to be replaced as RCB’s captain now that he has won back to back games while captaining the RCB side.
