Watch: Dinesh Karthik’s controversial run-out of Glenn Maxwell divide fans on the internet

Glenn Maxwell

Two run-outs in two days have called for a lot of fury amongst cricket fans. One run-out was within the limits of rules framed by MCC, whereas the other one has created controversy on social media. It is Glenn Maxwell’s dismissal against India in the third T20I which has invited discussions and debates amongst the fans.

The incident occurred in the eighth over of the India vs Australia fixture happening in Hyderabad. Glenn Maxwell was on strike against Yuzvendra Chahal. The right-handed batsman tucked off the ball on the onside and tried to steal a double. The bullet arm of Axar Patel ensured the ball hit the stumps. However, the on-field umpire referred it to the third umpire to decide that to be an out or not out.

When the replay was shown, Dinesh Karthik dislodged the bails before even collecting the stumps. Glenn Maxwell was short of the crease when Dinesh Karthik had dislodged the bails without the ball in his hands. However, the third umpire adjudged the Aussie batsman out as the ball dislodged the other undisturbed bail through a direct hit. This has created a divide among the fan.

Here’s a look at the video:

When there were no LED stumps, if players dislodged the bails without the ball, the players had to remove at least one wicket to consider for the appeal. However, the MCC rules state that removing one undisturbed bail is also fine to declare the batsman out.

If one bail is off, it shall be sufficient for the purpose of putting the wicket down to remove the remaining bail or to strike or pull any of the three stumps out of the ground, in any of the ways stated in 29.1.

At the time of reporting the incident, Australia have completed their quota of 20 overs. Despite the middle-order slump, Australia surmounted 186 for the loss of seven wickets. India have a challenging 187 runs to score from 120 balls to decide the winner of the bi-lateral series.
