Virat Kohli’s shocking revelation in the press conference after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match on Sunday hasn’t gone down well with many former cricketers. After India’s loss in a close match, Kohli appeared in the press conference and disclosed that he only received a text from the former Indian captain MS Dhoni after he quit Test Captaincy in January this year.
Amid all the controversy on his remarks, Kohli shared a cryptic message on his Instagram story on Tuesday. The former Indian captain took to Instagram and wrote, “Notice the people who are happy for your happiness, and sad for your sadness. They’re the ones who deserve special places in your heart.”
Ever since fans saw Kohli’s story, there were widespread speculations on the hidden message behind it. After Kohli’s remarks in the press conference, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar asked him to reveal what message did he want and from which player?
A top official from the Indian Cricket Board was also quite taken aback after listening to Kohli’s comments. He further clarified that Kohli has the complete support of the team management and the Indian Cricket Board.
“To say that he did not get the support, is not true. He was granted break to rejuvenate, he got frequent rest. Even everyone at Indian Cricket Board wished him on social media when he stepped down from Test captaincy. So, I don’t know what he is talking about,” a senior official of Indian Cricket Board told InsideSport website.
Meanwhile, Kohli has been having a great time with the bat in the ongoing Asia Cup. The batter has scores of 35, 59* and 60 to his name in the three matches so far. After struggling to time the ball in the first match against Pakistan, Kohli found his mojo back in the second game against Hong Kong. The 33-year-old carried his good form in the second India-Pakistan clash last Sunday and scored a magnificent 60 off 44 balls.
However, Kohli’s revelation in the press conference sparked a controversy regarding the environment in the dressing room. It will be interesting to see how captain Rohit Sharma reacts to Kohli’s statements in the coming days.
