Vamika rape threat case updates

The Bombay High Court has dismissed a case brought against a resident of Hyderabad for allegedly making rape threats against the young daughter of cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Anushka Sharma, Vamika, on social media.

The complaint was dismissed on Monday after the complainant, Mr Kohli’s manager Aquilia DSouza, agreed to have the charges against Ramnagesh Akubathini dropped before a division bench of Justices A S Gadkari and P D Naik.

When India lost the 20-20 world cup match against Pakistan on October 24, 2021, Akubathini, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, was accused of sending offensive tweets about the infant, Vamika.

Hyderabad resident was booked under IT Act and three sections of ICC

On November 8, 2021, a First Information Report was filed against him for offences under the Information Technology Act as well as sections 354 (outraging modesty/sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (defamation), and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Criminal Code.

On November 11, 2021, Akubathini was taken into custody by the cybercrime unit of the Mumbai police. He was granted bail nine days later by a municipal court.

In February 2022, he petitioned the HC to overturn the FIR. He said that the situation impeded his ability to advance in his profession despite being a deserving student and JEE (Advanced) Exam rank holder who wanted to work abroad.

The recent surprise appearance of Anushka in “Qala” stunned everyone. She’ll then appear in the upcoming film Chakda Xpress. A sports biopic based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami, the film is directed by Prosit Roy. For the first time in her career, Anushka will be seen playing the part of a cricket player. The sports drama’s Netflix debut will also occur.

The massively produced movie will highlight how Jhulan overcomes numerous obstacles to achieve her only goal of playing cricket. Jhulan later became the captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team, serving as an inspiration for aspiring players in the nation.
