The former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till was recently sacked from UFC by Dana White. The 29-year-old fighter is now a free agent. Darren is coming off a loss to Dricus Du Plessis, which saw him have his moments and success with his elbows before the rising South African middleweight contender regrouped and submitted him in the third round.
Darren Till recently took to Twitter and confirm his departure from the UFC and hinted that he might enter the world of boxing. The fighter was one of three fighters that were released from the roster. There were a lot of rumors among the fan base about the reasons behind this decision that he was fired because of his loss against Du Plessis.
“What’s happening everyone? Me, Dana & Hunter are still cool as fuck. I asked UFC 2 remove me just 2 sort some other shit for the foreseeable. They happily agreed to release me out of contract which I appreciate. I’m not going anywhere, got big plans to execute & I’ll be back.”
It’s surprising, to be honest: Robert Whittaker
In a recent appearance on a show, the former Robert Whittaker shared his take on Darren getting cut and opined that his former rival wasn’t removed due to his recent string of losses.
“It’s surprising, to be honest. I would have to believe it’s not purely because of his last few losses. I think there’s something more to it as in he’s going through something mentally or injuries. I think there’s discussions between them and they came to an agreement that they were going to release him. I can’t see them just cutting him due to performances.”
Popularly known as ‘The Gorilla’, Darren was a highly-rated welterweight fighter when he newly joined the company in 2015. He quickly climbed the rankings and eventually challenged Tyron Woodley for the welterweight championship at UFC 228. He had an amazing unbeaten 17-0-1 MMA record at the time but came up short as Woodley submitted him in the second round to retain his title.
