Twitter reactions : Delhi decimates Rajasthan to keep their playoffs hopes alive

Rajasthan and Delhi locked horns in the 58th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, the Rishabh Pant-led side chose to field first. They bowled with discipline and didn’t let Jos Buttler attack them. After scoring seven runs in 11 balls, Buttler was caught at mid-on by Shardul Thakur off Chetan Sakariya’s bowling in the third over.

Six overs later, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was coming off a fluent half-century in the last game, got out on a run-a-ball 19. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was promoted at number three, scored his maiden T20 fifty. The all-rounder scored 50 off 38 balls including four fours and two sixes. He was caught at mid-off by David Warner off Mitchell Marsh in the 15th over of the innings.

Devdutt Padikkal scored 48 off 30 balls including six fours and two sixes before a brilliant catch by Kamlesh Nagarkoti ensured that he had to return to the pavilion. Apart from these players, no one contributed significantly which meant that Rajasthan could only get to 160/6. For Delhi, Sakariya, Marsh, and Nortje took two wickets each. In reply, the 2020-finalists had a poor start as KS Bharat (0) was caught behind by Sanju Samson off Trent Boult.

Fans thought the 2008-winners would run away with the game with ease. However, Mitchell Marsh and Warner had other plans. They stitched a partnership of 144 runs before Marsh was caught by Yuzvendra Chahal at short fine leg off Kuldeep Sen. Marsh scored 89 off 62 balls including five fours and seven sixes striking at 143.54. He was looking set to get his second T20 century, but unfortunately couldn’t do it.

On the other hand, Warner scored an unbeaten 52 off 41 balls including five fours and a six. Skipper Pant, who came out to bat after Marsh’s wicket, hit two sixes to put the final nail in Rajasthan’s coffin. Rajasthan’s bowlers, who have been superb this season, were looking clueless. On the other hand, Marsh and Warner were simply too good for the Sanju Samson-led side. Their efforts meant that the Delhi-based franchise won the must-win game rather easily. This is their sixth win of this edition.
