The ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 has had a lot of surprises for the fans. The two new teams, Gujarat and Lucknow which were termed as ‘slightly weak’ by the experts, are currently topping the points table. On the other hand, the two most successful teams, Mumbai and Chennai are languishing at the bottom of the table. There have been a few reasons why some of the successful teams in the past have struggled.

The Indian T20 League 2022 unearthed some special Indian as well as foreign talents. However, there are also some of the most experienced veteran cricketers who have failed to deliver this season. In this listicle, we will discuss five players who have struggled to justify their price tags.

Players who have failed to justify their price tags

  1. Ishan Kishan

The left-hander was paid a heft sum of 15.25 crores in the mega auction by Mumbai to buy his services. He did start well in the ongoing season with two back-to-back half-centuries. However, after this, his batting form went downhill and his strike rate came down as well. Only recently, he scored his third fifty of the season but his strike rate was 118.60.

2. Glenn Maxwell

The Aussie all-rounder was retained by Bangalore for 11 crores ahead of the auction. Last year, he scored 513 runs which is why the team decided to retain him for the ongoing season. However, the right-hander hasn’t managed to replicate that performance this season. So far, he has only managed to score 193 runs in nine games at an average of 24.13, including a fifty.

3. Ravindra Jadeja

The India all-rounder was retained by Chennai for 16 crores. He has been an integral part of the team, since 2012. This year, however, he had a forgettable outing both with the bat and ball. With the willow, he has only managed 116 runs in 10 games and has picked only five wickets so far. Add to that, his first stint as a captain, too, was a forgettable one.

4. Andre Russell

The Jamaican all-rounder was retained by Kolkata for 12 crores. He was carrying high expectations from the team and its fans, given the kind of reputation he has built, over the years. However, apart from the unbeaten 70 against Punjab, the right-hander has scored only 211 runs in 11 games.

5. Mayank Agarwal

The opening batter was retained by Punjab for 12 crores and was appointed as the skipper of the side. However, he has only managed to get 176 runs in 10 games. He recently demoted himself in the middle-order to give chances to Jonny Bairstow to excel but his own performance with the bat has been disappointing, to say the least.
