‘Tune hundred percent try kiya’ – Rahul Tripathi recalls how MS Dhoni consoled him after 2021 final loss

The kind of senior player MS Dhoni is, he has always made an effort to spend time with youngsters. Whenever possible, he hangs back with players after matches and discusses their performances and how they can improve. Many players dream of playing under his captaincy at least once.

Rahul Tripathi has been one such player who got the chance to play under MS Dhoni when the two represented Pune in 2017. He had a good run with the team and had a role to play in guiding the team to their first-ever final.

In an interview with News 18, Rahul Tripathi said that MS Dhoni, after the final against Chennai, spoke to him. Tripathi was one of the reasons why Kolkata got to play in the final. He was a consistent performer for them but suffered from a hamstring injury in the final. Unfortunately, he could not get his team through.

Recalling the incident he said, “Koi nahi, aaj tumhara day nahi tha, But tune hundred percent try kiya”(It wasn’t your day, but you gave your hundred percent). I was feeling very down since we lost the final, but Mahi bhai came after but Mahi bhai came after the game also and spoke to me for a minute or so.”

After a successful last season, he was expected to get some good bids. But, he was paid a massive amount of 8.5 crores by Hyderabad in the mega auction.

Remembering what his father told him, Tripathi said, “My dad always tells me that IPL is a great opportunity to play for India. He always told me wherever you go, whichever team you play for, money is secondary,”
