Former England coach Andy Flower has been appointed as the new coach for Indian Premier League (IPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the 2024 season. After a trophy-less 16 seasons in IPL, RCB is set to get a new coaching staff set up along with Flower. He has prior experience as the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the last two seasons, leading them to the playoffs on both occasions.
The addition of AB de Villiers to the coaching team as a mentor is also becoming more likely. The former Protea batter, on the other hand, was inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame earlier this year with Chris Gayle. Since his playing days, the former South African batsman has maintained good relationships with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. He has previously shown a desire in becoming involved with the franchise in any capacity.
Will Andy Flower be successful for RCB?
The new head coach will replace Mike Hesson, whose tenure at RCB concludes on August 31. The 55-year-old who has coached franchises and international teams all around the world. He was Australia’s batting mentor during the recently finished Ashes series. The Zimbabwean was allegedly in negotiations with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), but it appears that the RCB has won the race to hire the ace coach beginning with the 2024 season.
Sanjay Bangar, the RCB’s head coach, and the rest of Hesson’s support team are all set to go. RCB almost missed out on a playoff spot in the 2023 season. They were defeated in the final league-stage match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium by Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill’s brilliance. The setback dropped the team to sixth position. Adam Grifith the bowling coach of the Bangalore franchise, might also leave.
Diageo, in the United Kingdom based company, is known for making well-informed judgements based on considerable study. Hesson’s appointment in 2019 followed a much more diligent selection . Flower, is a highly regarded personality in world cricket, has clearly been thoroughly evaluated by the team.
