Earlier today, on Friday, August 4, cricketer Alex Hales of England made the decision to retire from international competition. The 34-year-old announced his choice in a post on his own Instagram account.

Hales played for 12 years after making his 2011 England debut. The right-hander amassed 573, 2419, and 2074 runs in 11 Tests, 70 ODIs, and 75 T20Is, respectively, with seven centuries as well as 31 half-centuries.

Alex Hales took to Instagram to announce this piece of information and penned a note as well. He said, “Just a note to announce that I have decided to retire from international cricket. It has been an absolute privilege to have represented my country on 156 occasions across all three formats. I’ve made some memories and some friendships to last a lifetime and I feel that now is the right time to move on.”

“My last game for England was winning a World Cup final” : Alex Hales

The right-handed batter added on his last ever game for England and the immense support that he received from England fans. He said, “Throughout my time in an England shirt I’ve experienced some of the highest highs as well as some of the lowest lows. It’s been an incredible journey and I feel very content that my last game for England was winning a World Cup final. Throughout the ups and downs, I’ve always felt a huge amount of support from my friends, family and undoubtedly the best fans in world cricket.”

Hales was crucial to England’s victory in the Twenty-20 World Cup 2022 on Australian soil last year. Prior to that, though, he had career issues because he missed three years of the national team.

Prior to the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, Hales’ name was removed from the English roster after he was deemed guilty of using drugs recreationally. When England visited Pakistan last year to play a seven-match bilateral T20I series, Hales made his comeback.

Hales, though, declared that he will carry on for Nottinghamshire in English domestic competition. Hales is presently participating in the third iteration of the Hundred Men’s competition for the Trent Rockets.
