The second edition of the Road Safety World Series is all set to begin from 10th September. The Indian Legends will take on the South Africa Legends in the opening match of the league at Kanpur. The first season of the tournament was highly successful as the crowd got to see their favourite retired cricketers back in action. The second season also promises to be an enthralling affair for the fans with the addition of one more team, New Zealand Legends.

The league will feature many big names of cricket who won several matches for their teams in their illustrious career. Among those many stars, few will grab the most limelight and become contenders for the player of the tournament award. Let’s take a look at three players in the league, who will be top contenders to win the Player of the Series award.

Tillakaratne Dilshan

Dilshan is one of the greatest players ever to play for Sri Lanka. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2016, the hunger to perform hasn’t left the star player. In the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series, Dilshan wasn’t happy just being on the top of the list of highest run scorers so he topped the list of highest wicket-takers as well.

He scored 271 runs in eight innings at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 136. He also picked up 12 wickets at an average of 13 and an economy rate of 6.39. The 45-year-old will be raring to go in the second edition as well and will surely do everything to have his hands on the ‘player of the tournament’ award.

Yusuf Pathan

Pathan made his debut for India in the final of the 20-20 world cup 2007. He is known for his six-hitting prowess and can launch the ball into the stands for fun. Apart from being a fearsome striker, Pathan can also roll his arm over and pick some crucial wickets for his team.

He put his brilliant all-round ability on display in the first edition of the league scoring 139 runs in four innings at an average of 69. He also picked up nine wickets in five matches at an average of 12 and an economy of 7. Pathan will be eager to once again take the tournament by storm with his cricketing talent and win the coveted ‘Player of the tournament’ award.

Shane Watson

Watson made his debut for Australia way back in 2002. Over the years, he emerged as one of the top all-rounders in the world. Post his retirement from international cricket in 2016, Watson continued to give marvellous performances in the T20 Leagues around the world.

The star cricketer will be playing in the Road Safety World series for the first time and is expected to wreak havoc with bat and ball. He has 1462 runs in 56 innings in T20 internationals at an average of 29 and a strike rate of 145. He has also picked up 48 wickets in 49 innings of the format at an average of 24 and an economy of 7.65. Watson will be one of the strongest contenders for the Player of the Tournament award.
