These five WWE stars turned out to be great actors.
WWE is considered one of the most entertaining sporting arenas of the world. The fans are treated with unique storylines of their characters that can give strong competition to a movie script. The WWE stars have to act in numerous scenes both in and outside of the ring to make them appear real. Hence, the wrestlers also need to bring out their inner actors and give stellar performances on the camera.
Many wrestlers from WWE have even taken their acting talent out of the wrestling ring and acted in movies. Here’s a look at the top five WWE stars who went on to become successful actors in Hollywood:
- Dwayne Johnson
After ruling WWE with his trademark ‘wink’, Johnson quickly transitioned into becoming a successful actor. He had his first acting role in The Mummy Returns (2001) and played his first lead role in The Scorpion King (2002). He’s grown on to become one of the highest-paid actors in the industry. He’s best known for the ‘Fast and the furious’ franchise and the ‘Jumanji’ franchise.
2. John Cena
John Cena is one of the most loved WWE Superstars. He had a huge fan base in the year 2005 which helped him grab some roles in the movie industry. Cena gained immense fame with the 2006 film The Marine. Since then he has done multiple movies including 12 Rounds (2009), Daddy’s Home (2015), Bumblebee (2018) and will soon be seen in the DC movie The Suicide Squad. His role in Fast & Furious 9 alongside Dwayne Johnson received critical acclamation.
3. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Stone Cold was an unpredictable fighter in the ring during his WWE stint. After knocking out several big stars in the ring, he became one of the prominent names during the Attitude Era. He went on to star in a number of movies including The Expendables, The Longest Yard, The Condemned, Damage, T Recoil, Knockout, Tactical Force among others.
4. Dave Bautista
Bautista was one of the most energetic fighters ever seen in the WWE ring. He is best known for his clashes with the Undertaker in the second half of the 2000s decade. After retiring from professional wrestling, Batista, once again, found a place in people’s hearts as he played Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has appeared in a number of MCU movies in this role, most notably Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and its 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as well as Avengers.
5. Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan is counted among the legends of the WWE. Hogan has appeared in movies such as No Holds Barred (1989) as well as family dramas Suburban Commando, Mr Nanny and even Santa with Muscles. He also was the star of the 1997 film The Ultimate Weapon, which even had a cameo by Brutus Beefcake.
