Three reasons why Pakistan might not win 20-20 World Cup 2022
Pakistan and England will clash in the summit clash of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday.
Pakistan and England will lock horns in the summit clash of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on November 13, Sunday and the teams are toiling it hard in the nets ahead of the high-pressure clash. While the Three Lions made it to the finals on the back of their hard work, the Men in Green, on the other hand, had a bit of luck that got them through.
Although one can admit that Babar Azam’s men made it to the finals after crushing New Zealand in the semis on the back of their allround performance, they do have a few concerns that Babar and the team management would look to address ahead of the finals.
As things stand, let us take a look at why Pakistan might not win the 20-20 World Cup 2022:
1) Openers’ strike rate concerns
Albeit both Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam did well against the Black Caps in the knockouts on Wednesday, the duo has been harshly criticised for their poor strike rate, costing Pakistan 20-odd runs with the bat most of the time.
For the unversed, Rizwan, who has gathered 160 runs in the tournament so far, has a strike rate of 109.58 while their captain Babar, on the other hand, has a strike rate of 87.61. The poor strike rate from the openers, however, can come as a headache and might also stress the middle-order batters, which might eventually force Pakistan to let things go loose.
2) Poor fielding
While Pakistan’s bowling has never been a concern for the team management in the ongoing tournament, their fielding, however, might cost them a lot of runs while defending a total, as they have not been up to the mark.
In the case of bowling first, it might force them to chase a humungous total, making things tougher in the second innings. As things stand, the team management and the coaching staff would look to address the issue and in the worst case, it might cost the Men in Green, the title.
3) Babar Azam’s captaincy
Ever since Babar Azam handed the ball over to Mohammad Nawaz to defend 13 runs off the final over against India in their campaign opener on October 23, the talented batter has been under the scanner for his questionable decisions.
Babar, however, has already been facing criticism for being partial towards particular batters and it remains to see if his captaincy and questionable decisions would cost them the title. To say the least, it is a threat to the Men in Green and it is all up to the right-handed batter to keep his calm in the summit clash.
