Five-time winner of the Indian T20 League, Mumbai has started their Indian T20 League 2022 campaign with two losses on the trot. They first lost to Delhi despite being in a winning position at one stage. They had Delhi on the mat with 104/6, defending 178. However, they didn’t have an answer to the carnage produced by Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav as the duo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
In the next game, Mumbai were in a comfortable position at 121/2, while chasing a target of 194. However, they lost 4 important wickets in the space of 15 deliveries and, eventually, lost the game by 23 runs. With two losses in as many games, the team is tottering at the eighth position on the points table with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of (-1.029). The team needs to address their issues at the earliest to make a comeback. Here are the changes the team can make ahead of their next game against Kolkata on Wednesday.
Suryakumar Yadav for Anmolpreet Singh
Yadav sustained a hairline fracture while fielding in a T20I game against the West Indies in February this year. Since then, he has been recovering from the injury. In his place, the team put their faith in Anmolpreet Singh. Singh, however, has returned with scores of 8 and 5 in the first two games. His performances hasn’t really inspired a lot of confidence. The team will be hoping for Yadav to be a match-fit ahead of the Kolkata clash.
2. Riley Meredith for Daniel Sams
Sams has had a tough outing with the ball so far. In the first game, he gave away 57 runs in his four-over spell. He couldn’t make any improvement, conceding 32 runs in 4 overs. Riley Meredith could be a good option to replace Sams in the next game. He can trouble the batters with his fierce pace and bounce.
3. Fabian Allen for Tim David
Tim David hasn’t been able to live up to his reputation so far in the tournament. He returned with scores of 12 and 0 in the first two games. Fabian Allen can fill into David’s role and can also provide a sixth bowling option to the team.
