In a massive run chase on Day 4 of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final against Australia, India scored 164/3 before the stumps. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were unbeaten and will be looking to continue their dominance on Day 5 as India needs 280 runs in 90 overs on the final day of the game. Meanwhile, former India coach Ravi Shastri slammed India skipper Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara for throwing their wickets away.
Shastri said that both Rohit and Pujara would be kicking themselves for playing those shots. Notably, Rohit was trapped in front of the wickets while he was trying to sweep Nathan Lyon. Meanwhile, Pujara tried to play a ramp shot over the Wicketkeeper but failed and eventually lost his wicket.
Speaking about the same Shastri said, “You know what’s amazed me though is the way that the pitch has behaved. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara will be kicking themselves for playing the shots that they played. They were poor shots when they were batting beautifully.”
Very much a possibility: Ravi Shastri
Speaking about the run chase on Day 5, Shastri said that it would be a world record chase and it is very much possible. He says, “Very much a possibility. This game shows us strange things. It has to be a world record chase. The pitch has eased out, the sting is gone, and it made batting a lot easier.”
“Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have been in no trouble whatsoever. They batted beautifully and scored quite easily. It is about coming out tomorrow and weathering the storm in the first hour, that will be crucial for me,” Shastri further added. Notably, India will be expecting Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane to score as much as possible and get that prestigious Test mace home. Kohli in his innings scored 44 runs off 60 balls with the help of seven boundaries. Meanwhile, Rahane scored 20 runs off 59 balls with the help of three boundaries.
