India square off against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC ) 2021-23 finals at the iconic Kennington Oval. On the 5th day of the game, India need 280 runs to win the game while Australia need seven wickets to get the coveted mace. Ahead of the exciting day Indian pacer Mohammad Shami said that India believes they can win the game.
In a post-day press conference, he said, “We 100 per cent believe that we can win the match. We have performed and won around the world.” Notably, Shami further criticised the television umpire who adjourned a controversial decision to out Shubman Gill. Shami said that the umpire could have taken more time to make the decision.
He said, “He (television umpire Richard Kettleborough) could have taken some more time (before giving the decision). This is the WTC final; it’s not a normal match. He could have zoomed in.. but it’s all part of the game.” Speaking about the same, Australia allrounder Cameron Green said, “I thought I caught it. In my head, I thought it was clean. I showed no signs of any doubt. The third umpire agreed.”
Will Kohli-Rahane script a historic victory?
As Australia declared their innings after scoring 270 runs in the second innings India required 444 runs to win the game. Notably, in the history of Test cricket, not a single team has chased more than 418 runs. Meanwhile, India got a flying start as skipper Rohit Sharma and opener Shubman Gill added 41 runs in the first seven overs before Gill’s controversial dismissal.
After his departure, Rohit along with Cheteshwar Pujara added 51 runs for the second wicket. Rohit in his innings scored 43 runs off 60 balls while Pujara in his innings scored 27 runs off 47 balls. After their dismissal, Virat Kohli along with Ajinkya Rahane added unbeaten 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Their partnership will decide India’s future in the game. India will be expecting a massive partnership between both seasoned batters.

I think they should target Lyon and Green tomorrow. As @jatinsapru said, they should focus on chasing small targets, then in last session with 120 runs to chase with 5 wickets in hand, then it would be ours game considering Rahane or Virat stay till the end.
