‘The Titans living up to their name’: Twitter in awe after Gujarat pulls off another final ball heist

Gujarat and Hyderabad locked horns in the 40th game of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, the Men In Blue elected to bowl first. Notably, this was the first time Hyderabad batted first in the tournament. They had an explosive start before skipper Kane Williamson (5) was clean bowled by Mohammed Shami with an inswinging delivery.

In came, Rahul Tripathi (16) who took the attack to Shami in the fifth over before being trapped LBW in the same over. At 44/2, in-form Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram stitched a partnership of 96 runs. Sharma scored 65 runs off 42 balls including six fours and three sixes before he was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph in the 16th over of the innings.

Markram, who scored 56 off 40 including two fours and three sixes was was caught by David Miller off Yash Dayal with the scorecard reading 161/5 and two overs remaining. Shashank Singh’s (25*) quickfire cameo in the end took the team total to 195/6. In reply, the Hardik Pandya-led side had a great start as openers, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill provided a great launching pad with a partnership of 69 runs.

Saha took the attack on the opposition, while Gill (22 off 24) played almost a run-a ball innings before bein bowled by Umran Malik. Skipper Hardik Pandya, who started his innings well with 10 off six became the second wicket of Malik with the score reading 85/2. Saha scored 68 off 38 including 11 fours and one six and stitched a partnership of 37 runs with David Miller before he became the third victim of Malik.

Two overs later, Miller (17) was clean bowled trying to hit a six against Malik. Malik ended his spell with a wicket of Abhinav Manohar (0). With this wicket, the tearaway pacer completed his maiden five-wicket haul of his Indian T20 League career. However, Malik’s spell couldn’t win the game for his team. Rahul Tewatia (40*) and Rashid Khan (31*) pulled off a tough chase of 56 runs in the last fours to win the game for their team by five wickets.
