‘The measure of what he was in the Red-shirt..’- Former teammate Rio Ferdinand goes emotional after Cristiano Ronaldo’s ugly Manchester United exit
Rio Ferdinand played 455 games for Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United have announced to part ways following the former’s explosive interview with Pier Morgan. In the interview that shook the entirety of the footballing world, Ronaldo had claimed ‘betrayal’ by the club. The Portuguese had also criticised the Manchester United board, coach Erik ten Hag and the entirety of the Manchester United structure.
Ronaldo claimed that United had remained exactly where they were 20 years ago while other clubs have moved on. The most shocking of claims that the 37-year-old made was that Manchester United chefs did not believe him when he was going through a tough time after the death of his stillborn child.
The interview was deemed too much by analysts and a strong decision from Manchester United was expected. On the evening of November 22nd, United released a statement announcing Ronaldo’s end of the contract at United.
Following the news, many former players who played with Ronaldo have come up with their reactions to the move. Rio Ferdinand, who played with Ronaldo at United in his first stint shared an emotional video with the fans, claiming Ronaldo’s ‘legendary status’ will still be intact despite his ugly exit from the club.
This is what Rio said in the video
“Affects or detracts from Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy at the football club, what he has achieved, his legendary status there, I believe doesn’t change at all. The measure of what he was when he was in the red shirt and playing football and what he had done, the amount of successful moments and trophies that he brought to club when he was here, became the best player in the world while being at Man United. These things you can take out or erase from history,” said Rio Ferdinand in the video.
Ronaldo is currently in Qatar gearing up for Portugal’s first match at the FIFA World Cup 2022. The European team will face Ghana in their tournament opener on November 24th.
