The 20-20 World Cup 2022 has everyone excited, and football club Manchester United also has expressed that they are excited about the tournament. They used a photo of former England captain Kevin Pietersen to raise interest in the tournament. However, things took a turn for the worse when Pietersen asked them to remove the post and slammed the club and its manager, Erik ten Hag.

“It’s T20 World Cup szn. We’ve welcomed cricketing legends, played at iconic venues and met up with plenty of heroes over the years,” Manchester United had written in their Instagram post. The former English cricketer replied by bashing Ten Hag for his harsh treatment towards Cristiano Ronaldo, who he called the “greatest footballer of all time”.

Pietersen commented: “Please take my picture down? I don’t want an association with a club that’s managed by a clown who is completely disrespecting the greatest footballer of all time! @cristiano is the BOSS. That clown who no one will ever remember, needs a wake up.”

The post was deleted after Pietersen’s comment, but the image of the same has gone viral over the internet.

According to reports, Ronaldo told United manager Jose Mourinho during the game against Tottenham Hotspur that he did not want to come on as a late substitute. Ten Hag then stated after the Tottenham game that he would “deal with” the situation.

This was not the first time Ronaldo had expressed public dissatisfaction with his role in the team. The manager of Manchester United has finally responded by wielding the axe. Following the disciplinary issue, United executives are said to be deliberating on Ronaldo’s long-term future. But whether the disappointed striker can find his way back remains to be seen.

United would have to wait until the transfer window reopens on January 1 before selling Ronaldo. The 37-year-old has been trying to arrange a move away from Old Trafford since the end of last season, after being disappointed by United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.
