Today, New Zealand are playing the Netherlands in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. New Zealand defeated the reigning champions England with nine wickets in their opening World Cup encounter. The Netherlands, on the other hand, lost to Pakistan by 81 runs in their campaign opener.
After the Netherlands requested New Zealand to bat first during their World Cup 2023 match on Monday in Hyderabad, Devon Conway as well as Will Young pitched three maidens.
But after that, the partnership changed their strategy, scoring 67 runs across 12 overs until Conway was bowled out for 32(40) against Roelof van der Merwe. Before being dismissed for 70(80) versus Paul van Meekeren, Young resumed his assault, scoring 84 runs alongside Rachin Ravindra over the second wicket.
Netherlands’ senior players were seen reading from a sheet of paper. The strategies to get the New Zealand might have been devised by the coaching staff. In the frame, the likes of skipper Scott Edwards and all-rounder Logan Van Beek can be seen. If they bowl out the opposition batters, it would surely be a job well done.
“We can put them under pressure and win the game”: Roelof Van Der Merwe
Roelof Van Der Merwe, the all-rounder for the Netherlands, stated that his team’s loss to Pakistan taught them that they must exert pressure on the opposition for a longer period. He added that there were a few positives from the match as well.
He said, “Look I think every team has plans to batters and tomorrow’s how well we can execute those plans to put them under pressure and I mean those two guys played a great partnership in the previous game but you know we’ve got our plans to get them out and as we said earlier put pressure on them. They are a very organized skilful team so we know what we’re up against a quality team but if we play the way we play and execute how we want to – we can put them under pressure and win the game.”
