Uncapped India player Sarfaraz Khan was expected to get his maiden call to the national side of the West Indies tour. In the last two seasons, he scored more than 900 runs each, making him a contender for a spot in the Indian team. However, once again, Khan was ignored. The West Indies vs India Test series will be the start of the WTC cycle 2023-25 for both teams.

With the Asian side losing the 2023 final, the team is looking for a different direction for the ongoing cycle. This is why Khan’s ignorance hasn’t gone down well with the fans and former cricketers. They have left wondering on why the right-hander has been left out. Meanwhile, as reported by PTI, an Indian Cricket Board has said that Khan’s was ignored because of non-cricketing reasons.

“The angry reactions are understandable but I can tell you with some degree of certainty that the reason behind Sarfaraz getting ignored time and again is not just cricketing one. There are multiple reasons for which he hasn’t been considered,” said the official. “Are the selectors fools to not consider a player who has scored 900 plus runs in successive seasons? One of the reason is his fitness which isn’t exactly of international standard.”

Sarfaraz Khan’s conduct on and off the field isn’t top-notch – Indian Board official

The official added that Khan’s behavior on and off the field isn’t exactly going down well with the selectors. The former also pointed certain activities (Instagram Story), certain gestures (pointing a finger at selectors after scoring another FC hundred early this year).

“His conduct on and off the field hasn’t exactly been top notch. Certain things said, certain gestures made and some incidents have been taken note of. A bit more disciplined approach would only do him a world of good. Hopefully, Sarfaraz along with his father and coach Naushad Khan will work on those aspects,” the senior official added.
