Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni

Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has acknowledged that he learned game sense in Twenty20s from his captain, MS Dhoni of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which entails monitoring the score and playing situationally.

Against Australia on Friday, Gaikwad scored 32 runs off of 28 balls in the fourth Twenty20 International. India won the match by 20 runs after scoring 174/9 while batting first. He hammered an incredible 57-ball 123 in the third game, which was the second-highest T20I score during a losing effort. He scored 21 runs off of the first 36 balls of the innings before crashing out of the following 36.

The Indian T20I vice-captain spoke to JioCinema about MS Dhoni and his game sense. He said, “No, definitely. I would say I learned being in CSK because, you know, Mahi bhai is always keen on reading situations, you know, understanding the game, how the game will progress. And he is more or less sends a message where you have to look for a team score.”

The Asian Games 2023 gold medalist added that, “You know what the team requires at that certain stage, irrespective of where you are batting, Either you are batting on 15 or not out or you just started, what the team requires just in particular that over. So I think that has stayed with me. And I’m trying to continue that.”
