Former India batter and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir is likely to end his stint with the franchise. After two years with the franchise, Gambhir is reportedly looking for other options. It has been reported that the left-hander might move to his former IPL franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, in a much bigger role.
It’s worth noting that in recent times, LSG has revamped their coaching staff. They have roped in Justin Langer as head coach to replace Andy Flower. Meanwhile, former India chief selector MSK Prasad joined them as a strategic consultant. Gambhir, who is a core member of the team’s foundation group, has worked hard along with KL Rahul. His hard work and dedication led LSG to the top four in the last two seasons.
However, according to recent news reports published in a prestigious Hindi newspaper, nothing is going well between Gambhir and team management. According to the report, a source said that after Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will leave the team. “After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this,” a source quoted by the media house said.
Is MSK Prasad the reason behind Gambhir’s possible decision?
It’s worth noting that MSK Prasad, who joined the franchise as a strategic consultant, has a history with Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir has criticised Prasad for his 3-D comments after dropping Ambati Rayudu from the World Cup squad in 2019. Then chairman of the selection committee Prasad also reacted to it with his own clarifications.
Meanwhile, another reason for Gambhir’s decision might be the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gambhir is a Member of Parliament from Delhi, and in all good circumstances, he will be contesting elections next year. The elections might also collide with the Indian Premier League, and that can force him to leave the franchise. Meanwhile, reports also suggest that he has been offered a lucrative post by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Here is how fans react to Gautam Gambhir’s possible departure:
