Indian star all-rounder and Chennai franchise player Ravindra Jadeja has reportedly left the four-time winners of the Indian T20 League. As per some rumours doing rounds on social media, the all-rounder is reportedly looking for offers from the other franchises and is planning to list his name under the trade window. There has been no official confirmation on the issue but it is expected soon.
According to a report by CrickTracker, unless something miraculous happens in the next few months, Ravindra Jadeja’s time with Chennai is all but over. Since the conclusion of the Indian T20 League this year in May 2022, the all-rounder has reportedly ended all contacts with his franchise. Jadeja, who went through rehabilitation at NCA before rejoining the Indian team, hasn’t participated in any of Chennai’s activities.
After being made the captain of the team this year, Jadeja merely looked like a shadow of his own self as he was seen struggling with both bat and ball. He even did some blunders in the field and looked totally under pressure. As a result, Chennai lost six out of the eight matches in which he captained the side. The team’s dismal show led the allrounder to give up captaincy and the franchise decided to bring back MS Dhoni as the captain who stepped down from the role before the start of the season.
Soon after, Jadeja’s rib injury forced him to not take further part in the competition. As a result, there were rumours that he had a fallout with the franchise. Jadeja has notably deleted all of his Instagram posts related to the Chennai team from the past two years. Additionally, he was absent from the video that the franchise released in honour of MS Dhoni’s birthday.
It is highly unlikely that the ace all-rounder would be prepared to return given that Dhoni has already stated that he will play in the upcoming Indian T20 League and will likely captain the team. However, a formal trading proposal from another franchise will be the first convincing evidence that Jadeja desires an “out.”
At that juncture, Jadeja would have to meet with the Chennai franchise officials, and the senior management might make one last attempt to appease him and keep him on the team. Jadeja joined Chennai in the year 2012 and has been with the side ever since. He played for the Gujarat franchise when Chennai were banned for two years but has been successful twice under Chennai while being a part of the winning camp in 2018 and 2021.
