‘Raat ko waqt chahiye guzarne ke liye..’ – Sarfaraz Khan’s father gives poetic reply after his son’s debut in ongoing third Test

In the third Test of the ongoing five-match series against England in Rajkot, Sarfaraz Khan became the 311th Test player to represent India, marking his debut in the national team colors. However, it wasn’t just Sarfaraz who grabbed attention; his father, Naushad Khan, also made his debut in the commentary box, sharing a moment in the spotlight. In the recent past, Sarfaraz Khan’s father has been pretty much vocal about his son’s struggle and the efforts that the duo has put together.

Sarfaraz Khan’s inclusion in the Indian cricket team is the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, supported by his father and coach, Naushad Khan. As Sarfaraz was presented with his Test cap by Anil Kumble, emotions ran high, with Naushad and Sarfaraz’s wife embracing him, their tears mirroring the significance of the occasion. In the commentary the ace commentator, Aakash Chopra asked Sarfaraz’s father how long did they all wait for making debut.

“Raat ko waqt chahiye guzarne ke liye, lekin Suraj meri marzi se nahi nikalne wala (it takes time for the night to pass, the sun is not going to rise according to my wish),” Naushad Khan said.

While presenting Sarfaraz Khan with his maiden Test cap, the legendary India leg spinner Anil Kumble imparted words of wisdom and congratulated him for his perseverance in the domestic circuit. The star leg spinner expressed his pride in Sarfaraz, commending him for his journey. He remarked that Sarfaraz’s father and family would undoubtedly be immensely proud of his accomplishments.

“I know you have done all the hard work, there were some disappointments but despite that, all the runs you’ve scored through the domestic season, well done to you. And I am sure you’ll have lots of wonderful memories today. It’s the start of a long career, only 310 people have played before you. All the best,” Kumble said.
