‘Plan B ki taraf jaa raha hai ye ab toh’ – Fans react to Andre Russell’s statement to play for the West Indies at World Cup 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell has decided to let go of a few of his franchise commitments to be part of the West Indies T20I side

Andre Russell has made clear that he would love to put on the West Indian jersey for the T20 World Cup next year and is prepared to forego a few of his current franchise league obligations in order to make it happen.

Russell has travelled the world through cricket and has many franchise contracts in different T20 leagues after establishing himself with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. The all-rounder, however, was not included in the West Indies team for the T20 World Cup qualifiers last year since the two-time champions were eliminated before reaching the main draw. Russell last competed for West Indies at the T20 World Cup in 2021.

I’m still willing to put my body on the line for West Indies: Andre Russell

Russell believes that the five-match T20I series between West Indies and India would be a fantastic chance for him to break into the team. The spry all-rounder stated that he is eager to play in a couple of series in order to get back into the running for the upcoming T20 World Cup and that he is available to play in it.

Russell had previously stated that he had spoken with Daren Sammy, the new West Indies white-ball coach, but he continued by stating that he hasn’t heard anything since.

The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder said, “I have been trying to let these guys know. I’m still willing to put my body on the line for West Indies cricket but no one has really come to me and said anything to me upfront. We [Sammy and I] spoke earlier when he just got the job and he said that he wants to know what I am up to and what I am available for, [but] then everything stopped. I haven’t heard from him after that. Obviously, he was busy with the [50-over] squad at the [recent] World Cup qualifiers [in Zimbabwe] so I not going to jump to anything.”
