In the 34th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, bottom places, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals took on each other. Ahead of the game, the home team, SRH was coming off two back-to-back losses. On the other hand, the 2020 finalists, DC won their first game of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders last week. Meanwhile, in the game, the Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first on a slow surface.

They had a poor start as Phil Salt bagged a golden duck. However, the likes of skipper David Warner and Mitchell Marsh showed some urgency with the former batting at a quick strike rate. When it looked like the right-hander, Marsh would go on to score big, he got trapped for lbw by T Natarajan. In the eighth over, Washington Sundar took three wickets to put SRH on the back foot.

However, the likes of Axar Patel (34) and Manish Pandey (34) put together 69 runs for the sixth wicket. This partnership helped the team reach a respectable total of 144/9 at the end of the innings.

Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to chase down a modest total

In reply, the 2016 winners got off to a mixed start as Mayank Agarwal found a rhythm with the bat. On the other hand, Harry Brook failed to put the bat on the ball. After scoring a painful seven off 14 balls, he was cleaned up by Anrich Nortje. After this wicket, Agarwal also slowed down with the ball not coming onto the bat nicely.

The discarded India opener scored 49 off 39 balls before getting out to Axar Patel. Rahul Tripathi also played slowly as he managed only 15 off 21 balls. At one stage, the team lost five wickets for 85 runs, including the wicket of Aiden Markram. At this stage, the likes of Washington Sundar and Heinrich Klassen took the game close. However, they failed to do after the wicket of the latter. They ended up losing the game by seven runs.
