With only 100 days left at the start of the ODI World Cup 2023, the Apex Council has released the tournament’s schedule. As expected, Pakistan has been allotted South Indian venues. After all, the political situation between India and Pakistan can’t warrant them playing in the Northern and Western parts of India. In the league stage, to be played in the single round-robin format, the Green Brigade will play in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata.
Notably, the semifinal games will be played in Kolkata (Eden Garden) and Mumbai (Wankhede Stadium). For the unversed, Pakistan has only played one game at this venue, i.e in 1979, a Test match between India vs Pakistan. The game was won by India. Meanwhile, after this, the political situation hasn’t let the former World Champions play at the Wankhede Stadium. Meanwhile, if Pakistan qualifies for the semis, their semifinal game might be shifted to Kolkata depending on the scenario.
For this to happen, Pakistan will have to finish either first or fourth as the first semifinal will be played in Mumbai. However, if the team finishes second or third, they will qualify for the second semi, which means that the scenario of shifting Pakistan’s semifinal game might not be shifted. Meanwhile, the fans have reacted to the scenario as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
