In the ongoing World Test Championship final 2023, Australia’s Steve Smith and Travis Head have bailed out their team against India. In the game, the 2021 finalists won the toss and elected to bowl first. With the ball, the Asian side had a great start with the ball as Mohammed Siraj took the wicket of Usman Khawaja, the highest run-getter for the team early in the innings.
At 2/1, the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner put together 69 runs for the second wicket. Ahead of the Lunch break, Shardul Thakur removed the latter via KS Bharat taking a diving catch down the leg side. After the Lunch break, Shami went through Marnus. At 78/3, the Aussies needed a partnership, or the Asian side would have dominated the game as of now.
Travis Head’s maiden Test century against India keeps Australia ahead
The likes of Head and vice-captain Steve Smith have put together an unbeaten 251 runs for the fourth wicket. The former started the counter-attack against the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami. On the other hand, Smith was playing in his conventional way. In the second session, the Kangaroos played attacking cricket and amassed 97 runs.
At the end of the second session, the Pat Cummins-led side reached 170/3. At the time, Smith had scored 33 while Head was batting on 60. In the last session, both batters punished the Indian bowlers for fun. In the evening session, they amassed 157 runs without losing any wickets. During this, Head scored his maiden hundred overseas and against India. At the time of writing, the left-hander is batting 146.
