Virat Kohli brought out his 72nd international century in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday. The game however was a dead rubber as India had already lost the three-match series as a result of their back-to-back losses in the first two matches. This was just a game to save some face from the increasing criticism that the team is getting after their disappointing 20-20 World Cup campaign and Bangladesh tour.

Ishan Kishan who came in as a replacement for Rohit Sharma grabbed his chances by both hands a brought out a sensational double century at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. After getting past the milestone in just 126 deliveries, Kishan broke the record for the fastest double-century in an international match.

Alongside Kishan, star India batter Virat Kohli also brought out his 72nd international century ending a wait of 1014 days. The 34-year-old celebrated his century with a sign of relief and looked quite content with his performance.

Many on Twitter however felt that celebrations from Kohli were not justified given that he failed in the first two matches when it really mattered. Many were critical of Kohli’s innings and suggested that he only played in dead rubber games.

One Twitter user by the name Narender Singh wrote, “Indian always glorified its cricketing hero like Kohli, Ishan, Malik 2day despite failing in important matches & performing in dead rubber, as Indian know art of magnifying a small thing to happy moment but it further hurt. Very strange.”

Another by the name of Kashif Syed wrote, “And finally on a flat track against mighty Bangladesh after losing a series by 2-1.”

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Virat Kohli’s celebration after the 72nd century:

India and Bangladesh will now cash in a two-match Test series starting on 14th December at the Zuhur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
