ODI World Cup 2023

‘One-sided contest, Mazza nahi aaya’ – Fans react as New Zealand clinch crucial 99-run win over Netherlands during ODI World Cup 2023

Netherlands have a lot of positives to take home once again and will look to improve once again in their next game

New Zealand vs Netherlands

The Netherlands won the toss against New Zealand in their ODI World Cup 2023 encounter and decided to bowl first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The wicket grew slower as the innings went on. However, openers Devon Conway and Will Young had no such concerns. The first three overs of the first innings were maidens, but the openers eventually found their range.

However, the Netherlands did not permit any one batter to have a great outing as they kept picking wickets. Young holed out off a top edge, Conway plucked out deep mid-wicket, and a slower ball off-cutter claimed Daryl Mitchell.

While Tom Latham was stumped and Rachin Ravindra got choked down a leg, they both made noteworthy contributions. Making the required bowling adjustments, Scott Edwards was also in fine form, and the fielding performance was impeccable.

At the very end, Aryan Dutt was summoned back to bowl. He bowled tightly while taking two wickets. However, the 50 runs generated in the final three overs by the batters could damage the Netherlands. After 50 overs, New Zealand posted a fantastic total of 322.

Netherlands show fight but New Zealand show class with bowling

In response, the majority of the Dutch players received starts, though only Colin Ackermann reached the fifty-run mark. He put together a 50-run partnership with Teja Nidamanuru, but the latter was undone by his own blunder.

Scott Edwards, the team’s captain, joined Ackermann, and the two of them maintained the scoreboard. However, Santner, who had given up 36 runs off of his first five overs, returned and took two significant wickets.

He dismissed Ackermann as well as Edwards in quick succession, putting an end to any Netherlands ambitions. The left-arm spinner took another wicket and completed his fifer. Matt Henry completed the victory with his second three-fer in the ODI World Cup 2023.

New Zealand won the game against the Netherlands by 99 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023. They are showing their class against the best teams. The biggest positive for New Zealand is that they are winning games with their skipper on the sidelines. Once Kane Williamson is back, the Kiwis might just be unstoppable.
