India got off to a really poor start but was rescued by Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 of the fifth Test match against England. All of Day 2, however, belonged to the visiting team only. Jadeja got off to a well-deserved century after which the captain Jasprit Bumrah clobbered Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over.
No one would have predicted India to reach 416 at the end of their first innings but that’s the beauty of Test cricket. Indian bowlers wreaked havoc with the ball in the second innings.
Stand-in India captain, Jasprit Bumrah was in sensational form with the ball. The right-arm pacer dislodged Alex Less in the third over itself with an unplayable in-swinger. The other opener Zak Crawley was the next to depart, edging an outswinging ball to Shubman Gill in the second slip.
Wickets continued to fall from, thereafter. Ollie Pope, the next batter also looked clueless in front of an outstanding Indian bowling lineup. Jasprit Bumrah sent him back as well.
Joe Root has been in a great vein of form from England- New Zealand series and expectations were high from him. After coming in to bat at number four, the 31-year-old batter steadied the innings but never looked settled in front of pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj.
Bumrah and Shami set root up with four maidens and the ex- England captain had to go after Siraj. But it all played into India’s hand as the in-form batter gave an easy catch to Rishabh Pant. Jack Leach came in as a night watchman but Shami also sent him packing and forced England captain Ben Stokes to arrive at the crease. At the end of Day 2, England were 84/5 and looking in a really difficult situation.
Twitter was flooded with praise of the India bowling lineup after their performance on Day 2. Let’s look at some of the reactions:
Only 13 Tests old, but Mohammed Siraj has already troubled the best batters in the world, including dismissing Joe Root, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne twice each.
Big match player. #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/RdGIGSCwZc

India have been relentless with their seamers. The ‘New’ England have been kept on a leash and in their own backyard, they need a miracle – a Pant-Jadeja type partnership – to save them in this Test #INDvsENG

Superb day for India. Took score beyond 400, and had 5 wickets before close to take firm grip on match. Bumrah shining with bat, ball and as captain. Rain’s interfered quite a bit but enough time remaining still for a result. England not out of game but advantage India #INDvENG

Setting benchmarks with the ball in hand became a habit, hence @JaspritBumrah93 decided to shock the world with the bat in hand! ?
This man is special. Lehra Do ????#Bumrah #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/xVQ3h6q4tc

36 Years apart ? Just two Indian fast-bowling captains dictating terms with the bat against the English bowlers on English soil ?
What a beauty! ???

Broad the bowler v India is a special story in itself. 36 runs conceded in an over to Yuvraj Singh in 2007 T20 WC, and today 35 runs in a over in a Test match

One big difference we have seen so far from ENGvNZ: Indian bowling has been a class above. Even Joe Root never looked settled #INDvENG
