Temba Bavuma, the captain of the South Africa team, has stated that he was not dozing off at the 2023 World Cup Captains Meet that took place this afternoon (October 4) in Ahmedabad. He blamed the viral photo during the press conference on the camera perspective.
In advance of the upcoming 2023 World Cup, the leaders of each of the 10 teams spoke with the media and broadcasters earlier today at a special ceremony in Ahmedabad. Temba Bavuma, who was representing South Africa, attended the meeting.
A picture of Bavuma dozing off in the Captain’s Meet quickly became popular on social media. The South African skipper quickly clarified, though, that he had not slept off and that the misleading image had been created by the camera angle. He tweeted after the picture got viral as he wrote, “I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping.”
Many fans believed that the South African captain had slept off during the midst of the 2023 World Cup Captains Meet, despite Bavuma’s denials to the contrary. A number of them even informed him in the comments section that he was dozing off.
Temba Bavuma set to make ODI World Cup captaincy debut later this week
For the first time ever, Bavuma will lead the Proteas at the ODI World Cup 2023 this year. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the South African team will open its ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against the reigning champions Sri Lanka on Saturday in the afternoon.
When India previously hosted the 50-over World Cup, South Africa won the competition by accumulating the most points in their group. It would be intriguing to see whether the Proteas can repeat their success from last season.
Temba Bavuma’s team competed against New Zealand in a warm-up game before the 2023 World Cup. The DLS system was used by the Kiwis to win the game by seven runs.
