After months of lowballing Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski’s signature, FC Barcelona have finally landed the Polish striker. In a deal worth £42.5m plus 5 million, the Catalan club has signed Lewandowski for a three-year contract.
The polish striker turns 34 this year but the quality he possesses is still one of the best in the world. This is why other clubs like Chelsea and PSG were also after his signature. Lewandowski however had already set his sights on a move to Barcelona and that is what he did.
Talking to the press after Robert Lewandowski’s signing Barca president Joan Laporta said, “We competed with PSG and Chelsea for Lewandowski and he wanted to come to us, we must thank him because he gets less money from us.”
Reportedly, Chelsea and PSG had come with better offers but Lewandowski decided against better pay to move to Barcelona. After turmoil, Barcelona are looking forward to steadying their ship and getting back to their very best. This statement signing would not just bring goals but also a great deal of experience.
After the signing, the 33-year-old said, “Finally I am here and I am very happy to join Barcelona,” he said in a video released by Barcelona ahead of its US tour.
“The last few days were very long days but, in the end, the deal was done so now I am going to focus on a new chapter in my life and a new challenge.
“I am still the guy who wants to win, not only the game but also the titles so I hope from the beginning of the season we will begin winning and go for the titles during the season and at the end of the season.
“I always wanted to play in La Liga, I always wanted to play for the biggest clubs. It is the next step. Also, for my private life, it was a new challenge,” added Lewandowski.
Barcelona are next playing against Inter Miami on July 20th in the USA.
