The Washington Freedom chose to bowl first after winning the coin toss. Opening batsman Monank Patel, who had a rough start to his team’s innings, was cheaply removed during the third over. After failing to make an impact with the bat, Nicholas Pooran quickly followed him straight to the pavilion.
As MI neared the 50-run mark in the tenth over, Shayan Jahangir, who had struggled to capitalise on his strong start, was dismissed for 25. New York was finding it difficult to score runs. Dewald Brevis as well as Tim David methodically built a vital alliance that helped MI New York cross the 100-run threshold and steady the ship.
In the end, courtesy of a brilliant fifty from the youngster Brevis, MI New York reached 141 runs in 20 overs which was an average total considering the nature of the pitch. Their bowlers helped them out massively as they were able to restrict the Washington Freedom batters at only 125 in their 20 overs and won their eliminator match-up by 16 runs.
Trent Boult showed off his exceptional bowling skills by taking four of the wickets for MI New York, whilst Nosthush Khenjige took two, and David Wiese took one.
Texas Super Kings fail to qualify for the final!
After deciding to bat first, the Texas Super Kings’ total ended up being below average. Several of their batters had numerous starts, but none were able to continue and score a significant amount of runs. The Orcas continued to take wickets and never absolved the opposition. Even Sams struggled to escape in the final stretch, and 126 was the best they could muster.
Quinton de Kock’s magnificent 88* ensured that the Super Kings had been never even in the contest. He appeared to be unstoppable and was able to cross boundaries at will. De Kock took advantage of each small error the Super Kings’ bowlers made despite relentless pressure. achieving the target with ease in only 15 overs.
