Multan Sultans owner dies by suicide at the age of 63

Alamgir Tareen brought the Multan Sultans in 2018 and the team won their maiden title in 2021.

In what comes as shocking news, Pakistan Super League (PSL) team, Multan Sultans owner, Alamgir Tareen has died by suicide at the age of 63. He was found dead at his home in Lahore early in the day. A suicide note has been found by the police. The franchise also confirmed his death

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved team owner, Alamgir Khan Tareen. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Tareen’s family. We request you all to kindly respect his family’s privacy. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Sultans wrote on Twitter.

Tareen brought the 2021 winners five years back, making it six teams in the PSL. In the first two seasons in 2016 and 2017, five teams such as Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, and Lahore Qalandars played the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Qalandars, who won the back-to-back finals against Tareen’s Sultans in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, issued a statement.

“Lahore Qalandars management is shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Mr. Alamgir Tareen,” the statement read from the current holders of PSL. “This loss leaves a significant void within the cricket community. We offer our heartfelt support to his family and Multan Sultans to navigate this challenging time. May the departed soul rest in peace, and may their loved ones find strength and solace in the memories shared and the legacy left behind.”

Apart from Alamgir, his nephew Ali Khan is the co-owner of the Punjab-based team. The former’s brother, Jahangir has been an influential businessman and politician in Punjab. The Sultans website described him as a “sports enthusiast who wanted to work towards establishing a solid platform for aspiring sportsmen and women and to provide them with the best possible resources to further develop their skills.”
